I found this book so informative that I purchased a second one to send to my niece in Texas. It appears the Author has left nothing out of the book with regards to the publishing process. The best part is that it is written in such easy to understand language. He didn't use 50 dollar words to try and impress someone in the publishing industry; forgetting about who his readers are. This book is so easy to follow. Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge Mr. Kerns... it is very much appreciated.

I started with the Kindle and Audible versions of this book. I am a fast reader, but the content of this book was so interesting and useful, I finished the first read/listen in one evening.I plan to use this book as the basis for publishing a non-fiction book. The information is so thorough and valuable, I decided it would be worthwhile to order the paperback version. I have spent the past few days diving deep in the printed version, making highlights and notes in the margins. I will create my project plan from start to finish using the contents of this book.Unlike many books on self-publishing, this book is NOT a bait and switch to attempt to sell you expensive products and services. This book is all meat, no fluff!I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone that has an interest in publishing their own book!

I buy a lot of books about self publishing and I have to say that this one is one of the best.The others are good because they show the mechanics of how to write and publish a book. But they always leave out the marketing part.This book succeeds where others fail because it tells you how to market your book. Without a good marketing strategy you book will not sell. Sam laid out his strategy and shared other ones that people can use as well.If you're trying to write a book, or revive sales to an existing one, get this book.

Sam Kerns has just provided us an excellent example of what not to do in publishing a book. As close as I am able to determine his book is printed in 6.5 point type. And somewhere around 40% of each page is white space, so it would have been easy to accommodate a much larger font. The fact that the book is virtually unreadable without putting on my OptiVisors, for me, calls into question the quality of the content. I can only hope that there was some sort of miscommunication between Sam and his printer. I'll be returning the book for credit.

Unless you use a magnifying glass, this book is impossible to read due to the small font size.

This is the best and most complete book on publishing a book on Amazon, as well as information on paperback distribution to other platforms. It covers all the issues you face as a first time author, even Audible and Createspace are thoroughly covered. I have read so many books that were full of filler with just a few tidbits. This book is full of great information. I wish that I would have found it sooner. Just finished the second time through.

I have yet to self-publish a book myself, but this book seems to cover what you need to know to accomplish this task. The book gets right to the point, includes many resources and has step-by-step details for completing what you need to do to self-publish on Amazon. I'm looking forward to putting what I've learned into practice.

I wish the font haad been bigger, but I persevered and found some interesting links which I will use when I publish my book on Amazon. I think the pages shoould be numbered, and there was not list of the contents.. Otherwise a log of goodd information and research.

Roger Ling is a true scholar. He knows his subject and writes with clarity. He describes the method of creating a mosaic. This was a tedious task which required inserting a slender piece of baked clay or glass or marble into wet cement. Thus only a very small section could be done at a time. These pieces of baked clay are called tesserae. Some are one half inch by one half inch. Others are slender little guys only one millimeter by perhaps two millimeter. These were used to make a mosaic such as that of the doves found in the Capitoline Museum in Rome. Mosaics were placed on the walls, floors and ceilings. Most which survive are from the floor. This makes sense. When a building collapses most mosaics of the walls and ceiling would perish but conceal and protect the mosaic floor below. Mosaics were monochrome, also highly colorful. There was much experimentation. Some mosaics display a three dimensional effect. Some reproduce famous paintings. Some display reproduction of a painting with modifications made by the artists or the patron of the piece. Some of the experimentation in mosaics ended up influencing architectural design. I suggest reading Pinto's and MacDonald's Hadrian's Villa and Its Legacy. Studies are under way to trace mosaicists works found in areas stretching over large parts of Italy and Europe. Mosaic patterns in various rooms can be used on occasion to determine what use that room had. Evidently mosaics in triclinia (dining rooms) were designed to generate discussion. I would highly recommend reading Linda Farrar's Ancient Romans Gardens after reading this book.

This book is short, almost every page has a photograph of a mosaic, and the writing is decent, so it is suitable as a first book to read about Greek and Roman mosaics. But Ling takes too much of his short space to describe the figures and perspective of mosaics and says too little about the procedures used to make mosaics. There is just one diagram showing schematically how mosaics were laid, and this follows Vitruvius who Ling immediately says is often not followed in the pavements we study! I would like to hear less about chiaroscuro and more about the ingredients used in the mortar, and most of all how the complicated geometric designs were done.The long descriptions feel pointless and read like heraldry. Also, the glossary is inadequate for an introduction: the author in many places uses technical or quasi-technical terms like roundel, apsidal, vegetal, frieze, "rhythmic", register, ambulatory, without ever defining what these mean in art writing. Finally, Ling says a little about the social place of mosaic makers, but the only source he mentions is Diocletian's Edict on Prices, which is notorious for not being followed.A great service would be done by making a database of all ancient mosaics. As far as I can tell this does not exist, but perhaps something like that can be done on Wikipedia. I am not an historian of arts and crafts; if I were I would go ahead with this myself.

This book was a disappointment and when I look at the ridiculous prices being asked for it these days ($62.00 for the cheapest copy!!), I got motivated to write a review. It all depends on your expectations. If you want information on Greek and Roman mosaics, on the history and techniques, then this book has a lot of information, even if it is a short book (140 pages). But if you want stunning pictures of ancient mosaics, this is not the book to get. The book has 47 color pictures and 49 black/white pictures. The pictures tend to be small, as the priority is given to the text, not the photographs.My interest is in Byzantine mosaics. Two books that have good color pictures of Byzantine mosaics are: "Byzantine Art" by Jannic Durand, and "Byzantium: from Antiquity to the Renaissance" by Thomas Mathews, which is a smaller book, but also has many color photographs. Neither of those would qualify as a coffee table book, but the one by Durand comes closest to that.German publisher Konemman came out with a book which is oversize that probably has lots of picture of Byzantine art (as well as Ottoman art), called "Constantinople: Istanbul's historical heritage", by Stephane Yerasimos. I have not seen it yet, but Konemann's books are usually "feast for the eyes" material.I don't know of book on ancient mosaics in general (not just Byzantine) that has great color photographs. If that is your interest, surely this one by Roger Ling is not the one.

This title is absolutely worth every penny. Though weighing in at only 143 pages, it is deceptively meaty and educational. The 106 selected photos (47 color and 49 B/W) are crisp, beautiful, and plentiful, and the inclusion of a maps and a glossary were also helpful. The mosaics selected for illustration are sublime, and even those ravaged by time are hardly less beautiful for it. Chapters are (in order) Intro, Greek Period, Roman Italy, Roman North-West, Roman Africa, Wall and Vault Mounts, and Context and Meaning. In a book of this length each chapter is necessarily short, but the examples chosen to illustrate each section are well-chosen to guide further study in selected areas.

Mr. Ling, as our tour guide, transports us back in time and from Africa to ancient England, sharing the history, development and travel/migration of this peculiar art form. His 'tour bus' stops frequently at wonderful examples as he shares bits of history, syles, techniques and other information quickly and painlessly.Aside from detailed instructions on "How To", Mr. Ling's book gives everything else one could ask for. Actually, one could make mosaics learning from this book, it just doesn't have that particular focus.I've only had the book for 13 hours so am anxious to get home and pick it up for another read.

I really appreciate scholarly works like this book. I've been trying to find a good book on the history of mosaics that is - in-print - and this is it! Excellent documentation! Not too - dry - of a read either. A big thanks to Roger Ling for the enlightenment. Beautiful photographs, wish there were a-whole-lot more.

I cannot help but wonder, while reading "Saturn's Return to New York," whether the cosmic mappings conjured up by the Great Sara Gran are really factual and this is just the author's quirky way of informing us, giving us a hint of how the Universe works. I love this book. This is one I'll buy again in hardcover to gift to someone who is mourning the loss of a parent.If you have a heart that still beats, get this book. But only then.Robert Gavila

An enjoyable, believable novel about a young woman in New York coming to grips with bad news and crises in her life. This reader felt that it rang true enough to be an autobiography.

An interesting book that touches on real emotions, real people. Difficult to read for the first few chapters until you get use to her style. Well worth the read. Very enjoyable.

This is a smarter book than I had anticipated. The heroine is smarter, her friends are smarter, even her put-downs are smarter. It is also a love story, of a daughter for her mother. An appreciation of the influence parents and background had for her. And how she has adapted them into her life. It's a shame that this book may be swept under the rug and ignored in favor of other books that receive more publicity. A real sleeper.

I just purchased this in July 2015 and the Kindle version is unreadable due to lack of punctuation, random caps, and spelling errors. It was obviously not proofread and the publisher should pull this version.

I loved this book when it was first published in 2001 because it gave me something to cry about that wasn't related to 9/11 and the fact that I had to work down there every day and pretend to care about my stupid corporate job. I reread it yesterday because I'm culling the herd, so speak, thinning out my book collection and attempting to become more Zen about my possessions. My close friends get to stay on the shelf...Jane Austen, Jack Kerouac, Anne Lamott, Russell Banks and now, Sara Gran.I'll read anything, but I'll rarely love a book, hold it to my heart, wipe my nose on my sleeve. I love this book. I love that Sara Gran said in fiction what none of us who lived in NYC said out loud, you can't get a good haircut in NYC. Thank you, Sara, for this wonderful book with real characters you wish were your friends because their lives are just as messy and uncomfortable as everyone else's.

This novel was quick and easy to read. It really is the story of a woman's relationships based on the life of her mother, Evelyn, a successful and popular publisher of a book review which is prominent in New York City. I was to the middle of the novel when I stopped to ask when the stories about the main character, Mary Forrest were going to start. They were nuanced in there but not really the focus of the novel. The best thing about the novel is the voice of Evelyn, Mary's mom. You can really hear what she could be in real life through the author's dialogue. You get a good sense of her New York/Greenich Village lifestyle, too. Not my favorite, but a tidy nugget of a book.

Sara Gran's Saturn's Return to New York is a witty and clever novel, a light, yet still somehow substantial read of a young woman in New York, turning twenty nine, trying to figure out various aspects of her life. There are a lot of books out there like that, I know, but this one distinguishes itself from the pack. Sara Gran is a fine writer and her novel holds together very well. Mary, the protagonist is a likeable heroine dealing with real issues--such as her slightly troubled relationship with her mother, and her mother's failing health. It is this relationship that is the focus of the novel and not the whole boyfriend thing that dominates so many other young single woman novels. The novel is witty and well told. Everything, plot, character, dialogue, is natural and unforced. I really enjoyed this one.

I am not a follower or fan of graphic literature, I should state that right off. However, Alex Marchand does a good job of telling a complicated story in re to ACIM. Obviously Alex M. is more interested in the mathematical correlations to The Course than I am.His treatment of pi, (3.14.....), is much more involved than I ever anticipated. Glad to know this info, but it is not exactly up my alley. However the overall message and explanations in 'Rev. from the Holy Planet' is right on the mark.Alex does not play 'free & loose' with ACIM metaphysics, he is about as accurate as one can be, which is good.Alex likes to have fun, and he is playful with ACIM ideas, which I enjoy. The idea of traveling to a Holy Planet was a good ideaand Alex ran with it. Alex's female interplanetary guide, Zadeekee, is a bit preachy, but she keeps Alex entertained, and her teaching role stays on-script, nothing even R-rated here; some young people might be disappointed about this? Oh well.Having only two main characters is a little disappointing, for me anyway; more voices and personalities might be better?I hope this book reaches the audience it is intended for. I do wonder how many graphic lit. people will be able to grasp, much less understand, all the ideas presented in this 'Rev. from the Holy Planet' book? I guess some people will be ready for it, although it may be a bit much to chew on, & digest. Alex is a straight-shooter when it comes to ACIM ideas, no watering it down here. As a result, you are likely to believe all of it, or none of it; which is the way it should be.

Revelations from the Holy Planet is about an alien taking Alex to her planet, in which ideas from the course are second nature. I found it kind of boring at first but then picks up and is really cool. This book continues to use the symbols presented in "The Universe is a Dream", so it reinforces the "A Course in Miracles" concepts even more. For instance, the steps of "the separation" are explained really well, and there's an analogy of "the two pictures". Alex actually draws the two pictures, using the symbols, they're pretty neat. So overall I really enjoyed it!

I study all things ACIM so of course I had to read the latest by Alexander Marchand. He has a great sense of style and humor in presenting his dream visit to the Holy Planet. I enjoyed the story and illustrations and I will definitely purchase the next book as soon as it is available.

Fascinating ACIM oriented book from Marchand that goes even deeper into it via sci-fi story.

Alexander Marchand has an excellent grasp of both ethereal and logical ideas. This is the third book of his that I have read. I completely enjoyed all three. He introduces ideas about other planets and about physics, and, more importantly, about a kind of spirituality that most people have not been exposed to before.I heartily recommend this book to other ACIM students. I also believe that the spiritual seeker or curious scientific mind could benefit much from this graphic novel and come away with many revelations of their own. Thank you Alex!

Aside from the rave reviews, I hear of destroyed marriages, ungodly counsel, and selfish attitudes, promoted by the principles espoused in this book.As the mother of eight, I believe I have the right to speak out about this false teaching, promoted by this book, of "boundaries". I have heard some extremely selfish counsel, comments, and rough situations coming out of its principles, applied.We are to be Warriors for Christ, turn the other cheek, overlook a transgression, forgive one another, and lay down our lives for each other. We are taught to die to self, and put other's needs before our own.Please do not think that the continued quoting of Scripture in a book makes its message correct. Satan quoted Scripture to Jesus, remember? Jesus answered with - "It is written..." I say - "It is written...Greater love hath no man, than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" and we are told that if we are compelled to go a mile, go two. Definitely not taught to set up boundaries, but that the 2 become 1, and I believe the authors are to be held accountable, for putting asunder many marriages. - E. K. S., Florida

I live with an emotionally abusive husband. I had tried to get him to understand how he was hurting me, but it would only turn into arguments. I finally decided to go to counseling. I learned that I had a part in the problem. I was a codependent. I needed to learn to set boundaries. However, I was alto told that my husband’s personality was such that he would never get better and I was gently being pushed into leaving him. She asked me every week what it was going to take for me to leave him. I read this book and now I have hope again. Using Scripture, this book outlines different problems and how to set clear, fair boundaries. While I’ve just finished the book, I have already started using the boundaries. This book gives good, clear examples in a chart form that is very easy to understand. With practice and time I will get better and learn how to set good boundaries. I cannot change my husband, but with good boundaries, he can learn and change himself. If he doesn’t, and some don’t, then I will know I did my very best. I will also know how to deal with others in a healthy way. I no longer feel confused. I like the way this book values marriage. I had told my counselor I really wanted the marriage to work, but sometimes I didn’t (when he was abusive, which was at least weekly). It also states that there are times it just doesn’t work out, but if you’ve learned to set good boundaries then you can accept the fact it isn’t going to work.

About 12 years ago my wife and I ended up in counseling to try and save our marriage. The counselor recommended this book, and it was just what we needed for our situation. Since then I have recommended this book over and over again to other people, and shared it with many friends.

What a fantastic book to help understand relationship dynamics together with God's design for our lives in these relationships. Whether you have a spiritual connection to our Creator or are secular in your beliefs, there is a wealth of information here for you to understand.

Warning: do not read this book or take their advice if you are in a (verbally, emotionally, sexually and/or physically) abusive marriage! Attempting to set boundaries with an unempathetic, controlling partner will almost certainly backfire and escalate the abusive behavior, potentially putting you (and children) in danger. These authors repeatedly discount female abuse victims' stories in this book and imply that divorcing an abuser isn't an option. Perhaps this book has useful advice for enhancing mutually loving marriages, but it is naive on the dynamics of evil, abusive spouses. This book is filled to the brim with victim-blaming and doesn't go hard enough on spouses who are clearly in the wrong. Not all people can be loved/boundaried out of their sinfulness. Sometimes divorce is the proper consequence for a spouse who repeatedly violates your boundaries (and the abuser won't usually leave you in response to you setting boundaries, he/she will just get nastier).

Prepare to understand the boundaries your marriage needs... starting with YOU!! Not for the faint of heart! This book has been extremely eye opening & I have my work cut out for me, starting with mistakes I did not even know I've been making for my entire marriage! I look forward to the journey ahead & recommend this book to everyone.

It is helpful because it teaches a person how to express oneself in marriage and the importance to be truthful and doing things out of freedom and love and taking responsibility for one's action. I gave it 4 stars because I do not agree with some proposed actions.

If only this book had been available 30 years ago before my divorce, perhaps my marriage could have been not only saved, but enjoyed rather than miserable. I tried everything I could think of for 14 years, searching the Bible constantly, searching for help, only finding I had to change myself and take the log out of my own eye, which I did. But, the marriage only got worse because all I knew and was told to do was to submit. But, submitting to sin is neither helpful nor loving. I only wish this book was a required study and exercise before all marriages. Imagine starting a relationship already knowing how to react in ways that work.

The only way this book will possibly work is if both people in the relationship read it and are willing to completely change their personality. It offers suggestions for scenarios, but I find it difficult to remember what to do when the situations occur in my marriage. I feel that it is best if the people in the relationship accept the other person for who they are and don’t try to control them. This book does offer suggestions for this but personalities are hard to change especially for the long haul. A marriage would be perfect if both people followed these suggestions for the rest of their lives. I just don’t think this book offers logical suggestions for repairing or keeping a marriage happy.
