While awaiting the next David Balducci book, I read this author's first book, Term Limits , and was immediately hooked! American Assassin is the first in the series for the character, Mitch Rapp, and starts at the beginning of his career in the spy world. The story holds your interest and I was sad when I finished the book. For me, that's always the sign of a good book, when you don't want it to end. I have since read next book in the series for Mitch Rapp titled, Kill Shot, also excellent. I would recommend to a reader interested in Flynn's books with this character to read them in order. It is not necessary but the whole of this character is so much more interesting that way!

Chronological Order of the Mitch Rapp Series: American Assassin (2010), Kill Shot (2012), Transfer of Power (1999), Third Option (2000), Separation of Power (2001), Executive Power (2002), Memorial Day (2004), Consent to Kill (2005); Act of Treason (2006), Protect and Defend (2007), Extreme Measures (2008), Pursuit of Honor (2009), The Last Man (2012), The Survivor (2015), Order To Kill (2016), Enemy Of The State (2017), Red War (2018). Term Limits (1997) is not part of the Mitch Rapp series. All book in the series starting with The Survivor (2015) have been written by Kyle Mills, who took over the series from the late Vince Flynn.

Waited for two years for this film interpretation of the brilliant writer Vince Flynn's "American Assassin". This flick did not disappoint. There were some plot and event changes in this movie, but generally the important elements of Mitch Rapp's entry into the clandestine world of unsanctioned missions were intact. Combining the intoxicating character styles of James bond and Jack Reacher, Michael Cuesta (Director) did a credible job of bringing this popular character (Rapp was played by Dylan O'[Brien) onto the world stage as the next tough guy agent provocateur acting on the behest of a determined government elite who need a more effective means to fight back against new and increasingly powerful world threats. One aspect that I found intriguing was the youthful "kid" look and demeanor introduced in this new Rapp. This was an effective juxtaposition against the character played by Michael Keaton (Stan Hurley), and came off quite well, and should give fans of O'Brien joy as they watch him mature and develop in real time as the series moves forward. Keaton showed shades of his "Beetlejuice" zaniness at times, and this added some humor during what otherwise were difficult scenes to experience (torture). All-in-all an entertaining and promising start to what should become a classic series...

People have pretty much said everything about the book that can be said. It’s a quick read for a book of its size and it’s a good thing it’s in the series because you will want more. Story moves along at a good pace and still manages to let you know the characters while keeping up the suspense and action. If you are thinking of reading Vince Flynn‘s books, read this one first even though it isn’t the first one published. He went back and wrote this and Kill Shot as prequels to the 15 volume Mitch Rapp series. Enjoy!!!PS: They made a movie of the same name based on the book. Don’t bother with the movie, it doesn’t do the book justice at all, and changes important parts of the story.

American Assassin is my first Mitch Rapp and Vince Flynn read. I was intrigued about the books when I heard it was being made into a movie and after a quick Goodreads search on it, I determined it was a book I was intrigued enough about to order, which I did. And once I started reading it, I was hooked on the story and the character of Mitch Rapp.Rapp is one of those characters that immediately draws you in and keeps you invested in his story. He’s intense, driven, extremely intelligent, highly logical and observant, and immensely skilled at what he does. This particular book takes readers through how Rapp got his start as an assassin, going into who he is and where he came from while also showing how he became the man he (seemingly) becomes throughout the rest of the series.Once Rapp is recruited by Irene Kennedy and taken to meet Stan Hurley at the start of American Assassin, we start to see how Rapp is different from the others who came before him. All those qualities I listed above start to show themselves in varying different ways, each of which confuse and intrigue the people who either want him to succeed or want him to fail. He’s unlike anyone else, and that makes him as unpredictable as it does dangerous. Which seems like perfectly good traits for an assassin. This book takes you through Rapp’s training and into his first forays into field work and every single bit of it compelled me to read on. I couldn’t put it down once I started it, and I was never so glad to have made the snap decision to buy the second book in the series before I’d read the first as I was when I finished this book. I was also glad I’d chosen to buy both of books in print because there’s something extremely satisfying about turning the pages on this one. It’s a book that stayed me with, and made me want to go out and buy every single one of the books in the series because of how much I loved reading this one.If you’re looking for an entertaining and compelling espionage read you can escape into for a while, definitely pick up a copy of American Assassin by Vince Flynn. I am going to go out on a limb and recommend getting it in print, too, because if you’re anything like me, this is a series you’re going to want to own in print.

I wish I read this book years ago. I love reading coaching / personal development books. Definitely an insightful view of how coaching girls is different than coaching boys with stories from the author's career coaching the US Women's National Team supporting the lessons learned; as well as some lessons he learned while raising his own kids. Definitely not a soccer tactics book, it is a book geared for anyone coaching girls in sports or any other genre. I appreciate this book as much as Rinus Michels, Bill Walsh, Pep Guardiola, and Urban Meyer.

This was an invaluable book for me as I transitioned from coaching boys to girls. As a former Division 1 player, I was very nervous about how naïve I was as I started coaching girls. I read this before the season started & it reduced my anxiety levels dramatically! Turned out their was little to be worried about, but I owe this book a lot of credit for the success I had w that team over the next few years. I especially appreciated Tony's discussion of how most girls view their team/social peers as an interconnected web, vs the hierarchy or totem poles that boys often perceive. Very helpful w both team-building & also individual player interactions. Very highly recommended for coaches of girls at nearly any age.

I think it goes without saying, but coaching a group of ten 14 year old girls in volleyball is always a challenge. You never know from day to day what you're going to have to deal with when you get to the gym. I've been coaching girls for 12 years on and off and I've learned a lot about how to communicate and what to say and not say. Of course, there are still many, many things I do not know or understand. Reading this book has given me a clear understanding of the path I need to take every season to make sure a) the girls give me the best they have, and b) they have fun doing it. The lessons Tony goes through in this book and the examples he gives can be applied to any age group with some modifications, but the underlying goals are the same. I really enjoyed reading this book and see myself re-reading it many times to reinforce my methodolgies. Yes, this book is obviously geared toward soccer, but it is completely relevant for any sport where young women are involved. Highly, highly recommended.

Good book on Tony’s insight into his sucess as a coach. More of a biography then a coaching aid. Some interesting team building exercises that I use.

Mia Hamm said "Treat us like women, coach us like men." Tony DiCicco really helps me focus on not only the playing and fieldset game for the teenage girls I coach but also on their mental game. I grew up watching the team he speaks about - with awe and desire to be as good as them. These players are the icons of the beginning of women's soccer in America. Tony DiCicco, as their coach, helps deliver true insight in how to coach women and girls through this book. A high recommendation for any girl's coach.

I have read this book several times since buying on Amazon.com. I have also purchased a few copies for fellow coaches. There is great insight into Tony's experiences coaching top-level girls who have all the same insecurities as club level girls. There is also great insight into the drills Tony used to create a well bonded team. I have used many of these tips for my team and it has been very successful. I highly recommend this book if you are coaching or plan on coaching female soccer players. It will only make you better.

This is the second copy of this book I've bought. I misplaced (or loaned out) my other copy and just had to get another copy so I could reread it. It would be a wonderful gift for a coach new to coaching girls. Coaching girls is very different from coaching boys -- especially in the pre-teen/teen years. Tony D. offers some wonderful insight on the differences and how to handle them.(Recently got my copy signed by Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly and Tisha Venturini-Hoch, too!)

Awesome book. If you coach girls, read this book. I put tabs on pages of books that I want to remember. I should have tabbed the pages I didn't want to remember in this book, it would have been easier. Thanks for the insight Tony.

Of course the stories Charlie Louvin tells are fantastic. The time he and his brother sneaked a listen to Roy Acuff, and later the time Johnny Cash sneaked a listen to them. The shiny hucksters. The small-time radio gigs. Crammed inside a tool shed to try out for the Opry, over and over. Roy Acuff's people calling him a liar. Hank Williams passed out drunk in a Shreveport gutter. Korean War. Walgreen's lunch counter. All of the "success" of his later years. In addition to the telling great stories and showcasing his devotion for his brother, Charlie Louvin got it right in the way the stories are presented. Louvin and Ben Whitmer have put together a phenomenal book in terms of structure, for one thing. Each story is presented in a few pages -- sometimes three, sometimes five or six. Each one can stand all alone, like a short story, but each story informs the entire narrative, like chapters in a book. This book is kinda like the quilt your grandmother and her friends had hanging from that frame in the ceiling, the one they worked on every afternoon while you watched tv and drank iced tea and listened to them out of the corner of your ear. Each little square they worked into the quilt had its own narrative, its own reason. And they worked, piecing them together in a tapestry, the whole being so much more than the sum of its parts. Each square a work of art, and the whole quilt a piece of each of them, a memory of warmth, passed down for generations.Charlie Louvin told great stories, and Benjamin Whitmer Pike (Switchblade) has worked them together into an amazing collection.Whether you're interested in country living or country music, in American history or personal history, SATAN IS REAL is a remarkable achievement and, more importantly, an amazing and rewarding read.

The word 'legendary' has been tossed around and diluted so much over the years, that I hesitate to use it here...but, the fact is, the Louvin Brothers (Ira and Charlie) ARE true legends of country music, and their songs have touched and influenced countless performers who are (rather sadly) more widely known in the field. But, one need not be a country music fan to become completely engrossed in this book. In SATAN IS REAL: THE BALLAD OF THE LOUVIN BROTHERS, Charlie Louvin and Benjamin Whitmer have weaved a wonderful collection of anecdotes into a immensely readable biography of the two distinctly different brothers. There is a good amount of comedy in these pages, and a good amount of tragedy. But, through all the triumphs and tribulations, the abiding love between Charlie and Ira really shines through...even when Charlie had to kick Ira's ass!More than just the story of the two talented brothers, SATAN IS REAL: THE BALLAD OF THE LOUVIN BROTHERS also works as a snapshot of the music and recording industry "back in the day", and includes a number of photographs of the Louvins, their family, and some of their familiar friends.I really enjoyed the story of the Louvin Brothers, and one listen to their music will let readers know why they truly ARE legendary.

This book has been reviewed by a number of people already, but I thought I'd pass on a tip about this book, if you somehow missed it-it's that good.Even if you don't like country music (even the original kind-not just the glossy, pop music in a cowboy hat stuff that often passes for country music today-though some of that is good too), you'll find this book worthwhile. Admittedly I'm a fan of the Louvin Brothers early stuff, but this book is so much more than about music. It's about a lifestyle all but gone in America. In the short (2-4 pages or so) chapters you'll begin to see a way of life none of us (thankfully) will ever know. But Charlie Louvin lived it, and he's laid it out in an easy to read format. There's also a number of b&w photographs throughout the body of the book that helps form a better picture of that entire era.Charlie Louvin was the "good" brother, Ira was the one who always got in trouble-throughout his entire life. The book is, by turns, funny, scary, sad, informative, and revealing. From the brother's early days on the farm picking cotton, to the early days of their singing career, to eventual widespread (and well earned) popularity, to Ira's death, this book is hard to put down. Yes, there's some foul language included in Charlie telling these tales, but sometimes the choice of words just seems to fit and makes the story somehow more compelling. But this isn't a book for young impressionable readers-maybe later. As I said, I'm writing this, in my own small way, to alert more people to check this great book out. It's a slice of life that's the real deal. And oftentimes you don't always get the real story, but here you have Charlie Louvin's look back at his brother, his family, the brother's career, and their music. It's all laid out and seems to have the ring of truth about it. But even if only half of the stories Charlie tells are even partially true-what a life! Another cool thing is that the hardcover is made up to resemble a cheap (dime) mass paperback book, using a portion of the brother's album cover art and title. Check this out, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
