The idea behind this is good, but the execution of it was not. It’s like the author took every predicable and cheesy action/idea and placed them all in the book.Drunk girl is inappropriate -checkBest friend in love with prince-checkBest friend bitter/mad because she’s in love with her friends guy-checkGirl finds brother more attractive-checkBrother falls in love with girl-checkCharacter who is a pompous, arrogant, sexist turd- checkCharacters must survive in the outdoors for days-checkParent betrays their kid-checkSomeone tries to poison the queen-checkKing dies-checkPerfect prince-checkUnexpected pregnancy-checkPrince gets jealous a lot-checkPrincess gets jealous for no reason- check The only surprising part was the arrogant prince wins on the end, but even that I saw coming. The story actually started out really well but then became a disappointment. The ending seemed to just stop. Then we have a paragraph that ‘wraps up’ things, except it doesn’t. At all. The last straw for me was the brother just leaving her eventually and returning home. Without knowing that she’s safe or cared for or that his niece will be ok. When he was suppose to be ‘in love’ with her. Someone needs to teach this cold prince what love really is.
My friend recommended I get this book for my teenage daughter. When it arrived, I decided to run through the first few chapters before handing it off. I read the whole damn thing in just a few days. Super fast read with lots of twists that kept me super engaged.
It was so disappointing to get to the end...... my heart hurt. Not because the story was disappointing but because it was over....... there was no more Young or Charlotte. Then I read the author's note. That made me soooo excited and i can't wait to see how the story continues!
Who doesn't love a great princess story? My intention was to read this book throughout a long weekend, but spirited main character keep me turning pages and not leaving my spot until the last page was read. Brittni has a gift for story telling that was evident after the introduction of her strong headed young princess in the very first chapter. I loved how Brittni unraveled the story through the eyes of the various characters. I am eager to see more of her story telling talents in the years to come.
I loved that the author let you see into the psyche of the characters from their point of view which helped you feel what they felt. There wasn't a dull moment in this well written adventure in foreign lands. What a beautiful way to experience a coming of age love story. I want more!!
Dual POV between Princess Charlotte and Prince Young. I thought the style of Princess Charlotte’s POV was very ‘petulant child’. It felt younger than YA. Not that the language was simple, more that the style was young.Princess Charlotte’s life isn’t hers. Marrying at 16 to someone she doesn’t like. So yes, that’s tough, but the way she handled it made me dislike her so much! Especially when she… no, that would be spoiling. But it made me not care about her and I so like to care for my bookfriends!Prince Young is enthusiastic. He is a bit too serious, maybe, but there’s good reason. Then something goes wrong. Lots of things go wrong!I couldn’t warm up to the style. Why did I keep reading then? I guess I just wanted to give it a real chance. The idea of the story was good. It was an adventure, but I just I never really got into it. And the ending was too sad. I think it was meant to be hopeful, but to me, it was just sad. And unfinished! It felt so… disappointing. I had to distance myself. Resulting in a low score. So, sorry, it just wasn’t for me. Sadly, I won’t be reading any more books by this author.
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.I knew I wanted to read this book as soon as I read the synopsis that Brittni emailed me. I mean, who doesn't want to read a book about a girl who attempts to kill her betrothed? Sign me up! I'm so glad I agreed to read this book.Likes:I loved Charlotte as a character. Always trying to do what's right by her kingdom and most of all, her friend. She does whatever she can. Even if that means marrying someone that you don't want to. She's also just a sixteen-year-old girl who doesn't want to be queen. She just wants to be normal!I loved that there were so many twists and turns. I feel like anything could have happened in this book. Quite a few things did happen that I was not expecting at all. It's a great book to keep you on your toes.The drama. Oh, the drama. I live for it. I loved the love triangle and the arranged marriages. I really wish this book as written for either new adult or adults because I believe this book would have been a magnificent smutty read. (That's basically the only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars.)I loved Minseo! Honestly, I think they should have ended up together in the end. I need to know why Charlotte didn't jump on that. I definitely would have.Dislikes:I need more. I want more Minseo! I need more Minseo! Brittni better give me a book of Minseo. That's all I have to say.Final Thoughts:I really enjoyed this book. I honestly feel like I could have devoured this book in one sitting if I didn't have to work or anything. It's addictive. I was constantly wanting to know what was going to happen next.
