I PASSED MY SCHOOL COUNSELING EXAM FOR ILLINOIS TODAY!!! I can honestly admit that I took the exam last month and failed because I focused on the wrong test material. I hate to say it but I purchased the yellow, black and white book (I won't say the name) which was a waste of money!! After reading great reviews on this empowering school counseling exam material I purchased the book, because I was Determined To Pass!! Nine days, after my book arrived, I passed my exam!! Yes, I read the entire book and study material!! This book is all you need because it places you in the seat as a knowledgeable and professional school counselor and covers what is on the test!!!

After several months of studying for the National Certified School Counselor Exam (NCSCE), and even with a change in test format, I finally passed the test last weekend! Dr. Schellenberg's comprehensive guide provided me with practical insights and helpful tips that I incorporated into my approach toward the test. I would strongly recommend other school counselors in training to purchase this book as they prepare for the various exams within their graduate programs and their careers as respected and prepared school counselors. It's definitely worth it!

I bought this book to study for the Praxis II solely based on the reviews of other buyers. Little did I know how accurate their reviews would turn out to be! I used Dr. Schellenberg's book as my primary study guide and passed the Praxis with flying colors. Her concise and easy to read manual makes studying simple and the example questions are true to the types you find on the test. I will definitely keep this book to use when I study for my other credentialing exams, as it covers more than just the content for the Praxis, but all exams for school counselors. If you're looking for a great study guide, look no further!

This book has good ideas about and exemplifies each concept with case scenarios but there are a few of those. There is a study guide but does not reflect the type of questions of the School Counseling 152. I would think the study guide reflects the questions of the Ohio School Test or other state. But it helps in the sense that reviews concepts and Counseling theories of the Asca model which Texas School Counselor test i152 s based on.

Don't think twice about purchasing it! This is a wonderful book and if you read it front to cover and do the exercises you will - - I repeat YOU WILL pass the school counseling exam. Best bang for the buck and a good and well organized read.

This is a great resource. I highly recommend the spiral-bound version as it is very easy to use. There is a wealth of information in it. It is also well written, keeping a person's attention and showing the author's personality a bit. It's more than just dull facts. There are great examples and a test to take at the end. It is easy to read.

She is quite funny as well

I recently used this text to prepare for the Praxis testing for school counselors. This easy-to-use study guide has excellent sample test questions and a thorough answer key explaining the correct answers. This study guide was the most helpful to me. I passed the Praxis with flying colors!

After reading "The Mountain Between Us" I was grateful to discover CHARLES MARTIN'S books are available on AMAZON Kindle. "Wrapped in Rain"(the story behind the title is revealed) is the second of his books I've read. It is easily the best story about the love between two brothers I've read and taught me a great deal about how and why men think and process life events and memories. There are past issues about an abusive father; the woman that reared the two boys, a childhood sweetheart that "shows up"....important stuff the main character "Tucker" walks through with us like a friend would.

faith and unrelenting love. Charles Martin is a wordsmith master and “Wrapped in Rain” is evidence of his prowess. Martin tackles the topics of abuse and neglect in this novel but does so in a way that provides an ongoing lifeline. It’s name is Mama Ella and she is God’s ambassador, for sure.Altho’ Ella is the victim of severe physical abuse herself, she is firm in her committment to the Lord and in sharing Him and love with the 2 abused boys in her care. The father is an outright monster. The older son is wounded in spirit and lives a solitary but successful life. The younger is fractured mentally and emotionally and is hopelessly living as a “lifer” in a mental facility, until...The book is a lengthy 383 pages and it’s not a barn burner; it’s not meant to be. This a carefully crafted, purposeful novel that rings all too true. The characters are fully fleshed out and what dialogue exists is meaningful. The prose is glorious when it speaks of the southern land, waters, animals and fare. It’s frightening when telling about the abuse but relief comes quickly when Mama Ella quotes scripture or one of her own special bits of love nuggets that are “bible in Ella speak”.There is no foul language or sexual content in this book but there is violence. It’s not gratuitous or overly descriptive but it is significant. I’d say it’s at PG-13 level. It would be hard to tell this story without it. If you’ve got a very sensitive spirit, you might want to skip past these sections, DO NOT SKIP THE BOOK! This book is well worth reading. The difficult passages do not tarry and the relief comes quickly. If you were to skip the passages, you won’t be missing much because the events are referred back to at later times in non-passionate ways, without the descriptions.If you haven’t read Chs. Martin, it’s time you did; he’s a treasure who writes engaging fiction that will touch your heart and stay with you for a spell.

This story is mostly a downer, but written in such a way that yoju can't let it go. The father is a certified monster, one son goes to amental institution , the other carries the scars of his abuse for his whole young life, turning ti bitterness and hate, but persevering to become the success his father always doubted he would be.. The housekeeper is a saint, staying to mother the children as best she can as they grow to adulthood,, and teaching them lessons they will recall later in life. The second son meets an abused woman and her son trying to escape danger to their lives. The second son recalls the lessons he learned and mellows into a good father figure and perhaps even a husband. The rain clouds lift and the future looks brighter. Well written because the cycles of turmoil and then the description of natural settings give you the relief needed to keep going, Well written.

Charles Martin never fails to satisfy my hunger for Southern fiction. I just finished Wrapped in Rain (Thomas Nelson, 2005). It's a heart-wrenching-warming saga of two half-brothers who battle the demons of a highly dysfunctional and abusive childhood. Standing beside them is an equally abused, but spiritually fierce caregiver who never stops believing in the power of love and prayer.Martin tackles some very tough topics: mental illness, alcoholism, infidelity, brutality, and deceit. But somehow he manages to coddle them in a warm blanket of hope. You will be rooting for Tucker, Mutt, and little Jase. They deserve better than what life (and their fathers) have dealt them. Read Wrapped in Rain and see if they find a way to forgive the unforgiveable.

This is a tough book to review. There is no way that what I say will give it the justice that it deserves.Something about this story really hit home, but it's not because I was ever abused. There were situations that I was able to relate to therefore I could almost feel what these boys dealt with.This is definitely an emotional read.The author has a gift for sucking you into the scenes to the point that you hold your breath so that the characters don't notice that you are there.If you are looking for a novel that is deep, filled with heartache, hope, pain, joy, faith, doubt and everything in between, you are going to love Wrapped in Rain. Spectacular novel that teaches the true meaning of LOVE!

This is an amazing book that draws the reader into a deep and poignant story. Charles Martin provides well-developed characters and a plausible yet unusual storyline that make for a true page turner which compels the reader to keep on reading then provides a satisfactory ending which leaves the reader sated and content at the end. I plan to invest time in reading more of Martin's work. The spiritual aspect to his writing provides such a wonderful contrast to the more frequent gratuitous sex and violence found in all to many modern novels. I highly recommend this book to all readers who want something more from literature than an appeal to the baser nature of humankind. Martin provides a novel that provokes thinking and leaves you thoughtful long after you have finished reading.

I own practically EVE.RY Chinese cookbook available -- both in print & out of print -- and this is an excellent collection of recipes that lives up to its title: "Soul Food" is comfort food, and I found recipes here that I very much felt comforted in seeing (the recipes and photos were very soul-soothing). For example, I've missed eating Shao Bing Sandwiches and there was both a recipe and wonderful photo of one of my favorite Chinese comfort sandwiches made of red-braised beef shank, and the recipe for the shank was on page 189, for the flabread on page 95, and for the Chinese mustard greens on page 157. In short, I learned how to make everything I needed from scratch. Is the book perfect? No. I did find the recipe for Chinese fried rice very disappointing: way too simple and made in that style would not be a main dish as the author claims, but simply taste like a very simple side dish. There are much better Chinese fried rice dishes. On the other hand, there are recipes here that are much better than in other books. In truth, there is never a perfect book, since people cook and eat according to our idiosyncratic tastes. But a book doesn't have to be 100% perfect to be outstanding, and I find this book outstanding. In addition to traditional dishes, which I focus on in my own cooking -- I am a white guy partially-raised in Chinatown, NYC and I've traveled and eaten in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc., so I have an Asian taste palette -- I enjoyed Americanized favorites such as the Orange Beef on pages 158-160. I have similar dishes in China, though I believe the famous "orange beef" we are familiar with in the States is an American incarnation (knock off) of more traditional Chinese dishes. The trick is not to make the dish overly sweet. I love this collection and recommend it as an excellent addition to your library.

This is a beautifully written cookbook that I cannot say enough good things about. Hsiao-Ching is a wonderful writer who clearly knows Chinese food. Her excellent recipes and charming stories are interwoven throughout the book, which also is beautifully illustrated. In the book you learn that Hsiao-Ching grew up in the kitchen of her parent's Chinese restaurant and that that is where she learned the art and craft of creating real Chinese food. The recipes range from simple to complex but each one is clear, accessible and easy to follow.

Just reading the table of contents brought me back to my parents home. This cookbook has helped me learn the basics of a lot of dishes I could never figure out how to replicate. The author's writing style is person and such a joy to read! The recipes she includes are true Chinese home recipes (and a couple of guilty pleasure take out ones). If you want to be familiarized with Chinese home cooking beyond the standard stir-fry, this book is a must buy.

These are just a few of the feels from reading Chinese Soul Food, by Hsiao Ching Chou. It’s a simple guide to making your favorite Chinese dishes. And a warm welcome to the Chinese-American experience, told by a uniquely talented author and chef.

Destined to be a CLASSIC! Beautifully written and easy to follow. Everything is presented in such an elegant flow you really believe you can tackle DUMPLINGS! It turns out you can! This will be something we do as a family on a regular basis. Thank you Hsiao-Ching Chow!

A collection of great, really great, recipes. My new favorite cookbook.

Great book!

Great recipes, education on Chinese ingredients and seasonings, and education on cooking techniques. Nicely illustrated. Well done cookbook.
