Nice to have a Christian Advent calendar. Only problem with this one is the design (very beautiful ) has the 3 Kings........they only came on the scene AFTER the birth of Christ.Would love to have the company's artists create a scene with the travel to Bethlehem, and then ONLY on the last window On the eve of Christmas, a picture of the crib. The crib with the Holy Child does not appear in the Christmas Story until Christmas! An Avent calendar with either the child Jesus or the Kings is absolutely MEANINGLESS and it removes all the explanations to our children on the meaning of Advent and their excitement on opening a daily window with a little suitable text.

Gave these to two little friends and parents report the kids have enjoyed them. Can't wait to get up each day to read the latest in baby Jesus" birth. Its a great way to introduce the miracle of Christmas and the true meaning of the season.

This paper 11 x 14 calendar reminds me of the kind we had as kids and that you can't seem to find in stores anymore. There are 24 paper window flaps that you open; one for each day, and there is a picture and part of the Bible story under each flap. This is affordable and pretty. Recommended.

These get a lot if use at out house. After years if use our last one wore out. This one arrived promptly after ordering and in perfect condition. I added a heavy piece of cardboard to to back of it for sturdiness hoping to help it survive the years of constant Christmas use it will get. Beautiful pictures, nice and child friendly story, plus it looks nice wherever you hang it.

Love the design of this advent calendar, it's one we will be able to use for years.

For several years I've taught an advanced undergraduate programming language course using the second edition of this book. Now I think I see why it's priced at $60, and the third edition is only $44. The third edition loses the simplicity and elegance of the second, replacing it with unnecessary abstraction and complexity (expressed versus denoted values), and treating the fun, hands-on part (implementation in Scheme) almost as an afterthought.If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Very helpful in describing a complicated language

I've taught fundamentals of programming languages, a course for 2nd year undergraduate students, using this book and it's been a success. The reader must know how to program in order to understand the book, I accept that, but the idea of teaching the basis of programming languages by creating one is great. Additionally, the use of Scheme as a language for developing is crucial.On the other hand, the quality of the book and the paper are good. It has a lot of very decent exercises and the subjects are well-explained.

I had to buy this book for a class, but it's definitely been worth the investment and it's probably one I'll keep after the class is over. Friedman does a great job of relating the concepts covered in the book to examples written in Scheme.

Yes, the Sudan is an immense country, which at one time played a vital part in Cecil Rhodes imperial dream of providing a corridor for a trans-Africa "Cape to Cairo" railroad (which was never actually constructed.) But the knowledge of the country, even among quite educated Americans, is scanty. Gordon's defeat in the 19th century might be updated with a few other events: the continued secessionist fighting, and associated genocide, in the western region of the country, Darfur; that it was once the home to Osama bin Laden; and that President Clinton once ordered a missile attack on a pharmaceutical factory there.Edward Hoagland, who is a journalist and essayist, has produced an incisive portrait of the country which provides remedy to that knowledge deficiency. Allowances must be made for the fact that it was written over 30 years ago, but there has been little else produced since that gives the reader a feeling for the scope and complexity of this vast country. I just finished a review of A Hot Country: (Love and Death In a Hot Country) (Twentieth Century Classics), a portrait of Guyana, which covers roughly the same time period, the first 10-15 year period of the post-colonial era, when the initial high hopes for many of the newly independent countries were being attenuated. There were still hopes that the Sudan could become "Africa's Brazil," and that its "rain-fed and irrigable lands would create just the breadbasket of Arab fable..."The Sudan is one of those "cobbled together" countries, sort of like Belgium. Two quite different ethnic groups, with different cultures and languages. At least Belgium is not in open civil war; the Sudan usually is, with the principal axis of conflict being between the Arab and Muslim north against the Black and Christian south. Hoagland focuses on this conflict, and made several trips to Juba, the "capital" of the southern region. Overt violence seems endemic to the Sudan; the American ambassador was kidnapped and killed in 1973, and there was a coup attempt against President Nemeiri in 1976. Even back then, way before the so-called war on terror, Nemeiri was waging a war of the ideological descendents of the Mahdi.Hoagland presents a realistic assessment of the power relations, even in the post-colonial era, between whites and blacks; the former invading the country as so-called "experts." He calls the whites "Tarzans," and said: "Outside of the several civil-war zones, the laws of gravity didn't really apply to you." "...off you could swing with your wallet-full of money by jeep or Fokker Friendship." "...if you came down with guillain-barre syndrome, somehow an iron lung would be found for you, though the Minister of the Interior himself would have been allowed to die of it." In another section, Hoagland gives the reader a depiction of an "expert" he calls Hector, who gives a somewhat jaundiced view of his profession: (an expert is) "somebody who can tell from the wrinkles in the sheets whether it was done for love or for money."The author also presents a balanced picture of the Jews who lived in the Sudan, and the apparently genuine feeling of loss on the part of the Arab leadership that they many had departed. And as Hoagland says: "But it is worth recalling that nowhere in the Arab world during this period, when African and Oriental Jews were migrating to greater numbers to Israel, did a religious massacre occur of the Indo-Pakistani variety, or an abortive European-style holocaust. The tactic of Israeli leaders like Golda Meir and Menachem Begin of comparing their Arab counterparts with `Hitler' and characterizing Arab aims as `Nazi' has succeeded enough in the United States that a writer who ventures into the Middle East must make some reference to it."Overall, Hoagland has written a fascinating portrait of this large, but relatively unknown country. Even 30 years on, it still deserves attention, and provides an informative read. Definitely 5-stars; alas the only review to date posted.

So we just got this book recently, and I made sure to check the translation errors noted in earlier reviews. My copy, purchased in June 2015, says "gallo" and not "gallina". On the owl page, the extraneous "lo" mentioned in another review is gone. The only mistake I found in my copy was, again, on the owl page, which reads: "Quien ha hecho estE telaraña tan bonita?"Sweet illustrations, and I like the repetition as I feel it's helpful in my son's learning process with Spanish. The tactile element with the spiderweb is a nice touch.

My daughter is one and doesn't have the patience to listen to the whole book, but she loves flipping through and pointing to the animals as I make the sounds. The web is raised a little on the page too, and she likes running her finger over that.

I wish more Spanish books had the English translation as well. It is a great sized board book though, good purchase!

Love all of Eric Carle's books! Love that you can actually feel the web!

My 17 months old son loves this book, the animals and sounds in Spanish, the story is fun and don't have a lot of text, perfected for his age, good translation in Spanish.

The translation to Spanish is very poor. In less than 10 pages we found at least three significant mistakes that make phrases rather impossible to understand. It's not that we are picky, but the sloppy translation does a poor job at helping kids to learn Spanish.

Really happy with this book. The Spanish translations are perfect. As others have mentioned, the texture on the spider web is great for babies. Great book for teaching babies about animals and their sounds. My 9mo really enjoys it.

I love listening to my daughter tell me this story in spanish

I was surfing looking for a great/good book to read and came across this fantastic , beautiful medical romance novel. OMG this book had hooked from the 1st to the last page. I just could not the down down as I wanted to see if this couple would get their HEA which was so deseverving of them. This book was filled with sweet romance, drama and suspense thus making it so interesting. I cannot begin to tell how much I love love this awesome book. The hero, Max and the heroine , Liza were dynamic and Max's daughter played such a important role in the book. The storyline was superb and the author's writng was so smooth and captivating.I have sinced purchase Book 2 which I am now reading.From reading about this author it seems that she new to the field of writing romance novel more so medical romance and may I say she did an excellent job of producing her first book.Congrata to you and look forward to reading many many more of your books..I recommend this beautiful medical romance novel to fans of this genre.

This was a good read. my only hang up was that i never learnt the out come of is ex wife wanting is daughterand I wanted to experience her parents meeting Sam and his daughter. one of the things I totally enjoyed about this book is that it is not saturated in sex. Thank you very much for a good read.

The characters and the story line captivated me from the beginning! I could not put this book down! If you are looking for a book that you can curl up with and characters you can relate to then this is the book for you!

I enjoyed this medical type romance. Can definitely understand our heroine's drive to succeed and become someone. A bit over the top about our hero's response after our heroine saves his daughter from chocking. But overall I liked this book.

This was an enjoyable read. It's a romance novel and medical book, it lived up to the description. I would like to hear more about this couple.

The romance kept the story spicy and Lisa’s story is quiet relatable not only to medical professionals but also to hardworking career women. Sometimes, we have to re-evaluate our lives & find out what really makes us happy. Such a sweet ending.❤️

I throughly enjoyed this book. It was intriguing, sexy and smart....so pretty much everything you look for in a man!! I am looking forward to reading more of this series.
